In Alexa Meade’s portraits, she literally paints her subjects.

Instead of painting on canvas (you know, like most people do), Meade paints directly on her subjects and snaps a photo. The effect is what looks like a two-dimensional painting. To explain the optical illusion, she says, “The mask of paint mimics what is directly below it. In this way, I am able to take a three-dimensional scene and make it look like a two-dimensional painting.”

These GIFs break the illusion, but watch this to see the true effect »

you guys, this is awesome.

The struggle between “Let’s make friends I love people!” and “Ahhhh I’m not an assertive person!”

STRONGLY APPLIED TO ME.

How to make friends

rosie alumbaugh Answer:

rubyetc:

102% of successful friendships are built on

  • food
  • mutual transitory dysphoria and confusion about other people
  • access to one or more cool animals
  • provision of free wifi/relative shelter from the elements.

So basically just find someone you like the look of, throw a cake at them. Yell a bit together and then tell them you have free wifi and a house with a dog.

abitofwhimsey please inform your sister.  She has thrown cake at me, y’all let me use your wifi, and you have a cut puppy and dog.  This is 10000% true ohmygosh.

Day 11—Favorite Director

Darko Tresnjak, Director of A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder

Fun-Fact: I went to a mini-Tony Awards for Connecticut theatre and I saw him during the pre-party.  I waltzed up and started to compliment him on all his work.  We talked about Shakespeare and musicals for like 20 minutes before the awards show started.  Afterwards, HE came up to ME, and started asking me what I was interested in and how I got started and whatever else.  He was genuinely interested.  He’s a cool dude.
